Shopping with a click of a button has become a routine for many of us. New York-based market research company eMarketer, in a survey from April 2018 reported that as compared to last year, there will be an estimated 31% growth in consumers buying online in India, adding up to $32.7 billion in sales. As more and more Indians buy (and sell) on the internet, there’s also an effort to expand the horizons of the market, in terms of making something ‘uniquely Indian’ work across geographical boundaries. Here are four e-portals helmed by young entrepreneurs who sell clothes, furnishing and jewellery, with a focus on selling Indian craftsmanship to an audience worldwide. Rather than mass-producing items that marketplaces like Etsy or E-Bay can compete with, these portals aim to focus on creating luxury out of items crafted by hand and produced on a small-scale, with the spotlight shining on the Made-in-India tag.
